The Story Behind Our Name

The Chambers Counselling Institute was founded as a legacy institution in loving memory of Leanora Chambers, mother of our founder, George Hamilton.

Leanora was a devoted mother who naturally embodied empathy, patience, and unconditional warmth. To her children and to those around her, she was a constant sanctuary, always ready to offer a compassionate space in which others could speak. Yet beneath her supportive exterior, Leanora carried decades of profound personal grief. Having endured the heartbreaking loss of two of her children, alongside complex and enduring marital challenges, she bore her burdens quietly, seldom speaking of her own deep pain until much later in life.

At certain points, Leanora would open up and share some of these shadows of her life with George. In the final stages of her terminal illness in 2018, she told him how much she valued simply being listened to. Having a safe, non-judgmental space to process her lifelong journey brought her a profound sense of release. In reciprocity, and in loving memory of the listening ear she offered him and his siblings throughout their lives, George established this Institute to extend that same therapeutic sanctuary to the wider world.

Our Core Motivation

Witnessing his mother’s journey, and experiencing firsthand the transformative power of a dedicated listener, profoundly motivated George Hamilton to devote himself for the last several years to the counselling profession and now to the training of other counsellors.

Leanora’s legacy inspired a distinct training mission: to equip individuals to become genuine agents of change.

We believe that meaningful therapeutic training begins from within. Before you can effectively sit with the pain of another, you must first do the brave work of understanding yourself, exploring your history, and uncovering why you do what you do. By anchoring our curriculum in deep self-reflection, we prepare our students to step into the world as highly competent, autonomous counsellors and therapists who can help others achieve that same clarity.

To maintain an uncompromising standard of excellence across our services, we have carefully structured our work into two complementary arms:

* The Chambers Counselling Institute is our specialised academic home, dedicated solely to delivering world-class, CPCAB-accredited professional training for the next generation of practitioners.
